Genetic Screening Day – Sunday, May 18th 10:00am – 4:00pm

Everyone wants to proactively care for their own health as well as that of their family.

Before you try to get pregnant, you should get enough folic acid, maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle, see a fertility doctor if you have trouble conceiving … and know your carrier status.

Millions of people are unknowing, symptomless carriers of genetic disorders that they can pass on to their children. An autosomal recessive disorder occurs when two copies of a defective gene are passed along from mom and dad at conception. Genetic testing, however, can alert you to your carrier status prior to pregnancy.

Know for Sure: Genetic Testing Provides Peace of Mind

New York Fertility Services invites individuals and couples to a Genetic Screening Day at its Manhattan fertility clinic on Sunday, May 18th from 10 am to 4 pm. We will administer a blood test and send samples to our partner laboratory for a complete genetic analysis. The cost is FREE.

Results are available within 10 days of testing. Should you and your partner test positive for the same autosomal recessive disorder, our fertility specialists can offer hope for protecting your future family from inheritable disease.

Who Is at Risk for Genetic Disease?

Anyone with a known family history, or from specific ethnic backgrounds should consider themselves ‘at risk.’ For example:

  • Caucasian Americans have a 1 in 29 chance of carrying the cystic fibrosis gene.
  • One in every 27 Jews in the United States is a carrier of the Tay Sachs disease gene.
  • Among Ashkenazi Jews, the Niemann-Pick carrier frequency is approximately 1 in 116.

New York Fertility Services can help you safeguard the next generation, and provide essential information to make informed decisions. If you would like more information about genetic testing and autosomal recessive disorders, please contact us at our Manhattan fertility clinic.
