Reasons Why Individuals Choose IVF Treatment
In vitro fertilization (IVF) allows couples who are struggling with infertility to achieve their dreams of starting or growing their families. If you and your partner are having difficulty conceiving a child, talk to an IVF doctor about fertility treatments. IVF treatment involves egg retrieval or the use of donor eggs, fertilization in a laboratory, and embryo transfer.
Many individuals choose IVF treatment for the following reasons.
Premature Ovarian Failure or Diminished Ovarian Reserves
When you meet with the fertility doctor, he or she may screen you for diminished ovarian reserves or premature ovarian failure. This is a condition in which the ovaries cease to release eggs properly or to produce sufficient estrogen prior to the age of 35.
Your uterus contains a lining called the endometrium. With endometriosis, this material instead grows outside the uterus in areas such as the ovaries or bowels. This disorder can be painful often leads to the development of cysts, scar tissue, and adhesions. Complications from endometriosis can affect your fertility.
Uterine fibroids, which are noncancerous tumors located in the uterus, can distort the uterine cavity and can cause problems with fertility if it prevents a fertilized egg from attaching to the uterine wall. Uterine fibroids are often asymptomatic, so you may not even realize you have them until you see a doctor for your fertility issues.
Fallopian Tube Problems
After your ovaries release a mature egg, it travels to the fallopian tube and remains there for approximately 24 hours, during which time it has the opportunity to be fertilized by a sperm. If the fallopian tube is damaged or obstructed, the egg may not be fertilized or it may have trouble reaching the uterus.
IVF treatment isn’t only for female fertility issues. If the male partner has a low sperm count, poor sperm motility, or abnormal sperm morphology, it can be difficult for the sperm to fertilize an egg.
